Shoot Experience This shoot to date has been one of our most challenging shoots; mainly because of time constraints. We were commissioned by our client to shoot some of their fleet as well as their staff. being a logistics company, vehicles often weren't available long enough for the time we needed them for, this also meant that we would have to split this project into 2 shoots. The size of the vehicles also added to the challenge. For our first shoot, we had to get some rolling shots done however, there weren't a lot roads which were quiet enough and had a nice enough background for the shots we had envisioned. One of my favourite methods of finding nice roads for rolling shots is to look at Google Maps on satellite view, luckily this trick worked once again, a drive to our chosen road ahead of the shoot confirmed that it would be an ideal location. We managed to get the rolling shots done in less time than we had estimated, having a good location definitely helped this. For the second shoot, we planned to shoot employee portraits, we wanted to photograph them in action, this is often a good option for service based businesses. When we arrived at Bidship's warehouse, my assistant and I walked the grounds searching for the best areas to shoot in; we looked for good lighting opportunities to see how we could best utilise what was available to us. We decided to shoot inside the warehouse, this had a good amount of natural light flowing in but also wasn't too bright. Once we had a clear direction for the shoot, we set up our lighting and coordinated the employees and vehicles where we felt they would work best. Once we were satisfied with our shots in the warehouse, we hit the road once again to get some extra rolling shots with BidShip's newest vehicle. I again used Google's satellite view to find a good road near the warehouse. This time we found a road that went through some farmland about 10 minutes from the warehouse. My assistant managed get some footage behind the scenes from the cab of the truck during the rolling shots. He also managed to get some amazing shots of the driver during the rolling shots, these turned out to be some of the best photos from the day. Bidship was founded…

Shoot Experience Shooting this Ferrari F40 definitely goes to the top of the list for one of the most legendary cars we have ever photographed. Not only is it a very significant car to me personally, but it also plays a very significant part to Ferrari's history and is one of the most favourited cars amongst fans. This particular example, one of just a few in Johannesburg South Africa, had been owned by the late Lolly Jackson. The F40 is currently in good company amongst many other Ferrari's in a private collection. I had originally seen this F40 at a car meet one Sunday and I decided that I had to shoot an F40 some day. About one year later, I had been put in touch with the owner. We arranged to shoot the F40 at the owners residence. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the owner and just behind him, in the entrance a beautifully restored Ferrari Dino, just behind it under a cover, The F40 was parked. I set up all my necessary equipment, I then walked around the car to find different angles to shoot, I was spoiled for choices. I spent just over an hour shooting the exterior and around 2 hours on the entire car. I'm still very pleased how these photos turned out, it's hard not to be. I think the car does most of the work. After the shoot, we sat down for a drink with the owner to chat. We also had the opportunity to look at some of the other Ferraris in his collection. A special thanks goes out to the owner and Greg Marucchi for allowing this shoot to happen.
Shoot Experience Shooting the Aston Martin DBX was a challenge, mostly because of its colour being black and partly because of its size, don’t get me wrong, the DBX isn’t huge but it is still a big car or medium sized SUV. That being said, the interior is a really nice place to be; Aston Martin have done a great job with the interior and somehow they have made it so it doesn’t feel big inside, its feels just right. That paired up with high quality leather (I always love the leather smell you get from an Aston’s interior) and the updated contrast-stitching , It’s easily one of the nicest interiors available currently. On the exterior even the paint is quite special, it might be black but it’s no ordinary black, under good light it’s possible to see a variety of different colour flakes in the metallic paint. The iconic wings badge has also been updated. There are various details around the DBX which photographed quite well such as various textures and patterns; the exhaust tail pipe surrounds are a good example of this. These are usually details which are not normally noticeable in photos. All in all this was quite a successful shoot, the photos turned out quite well. Photos and article by Roland Woon
